Mir Chats on Internet

MOSCOW -- Russians aren't much used to learning about the private lives of their public figures.

The Russian Space Agency lifted the veil a bit Thursday with an Earth-to-space Internet conference thatgave a glimpse into the private lives of the cosmonauts aboard the space station Mir.

Nikolai Budarin conceded that the 12-year-old Mir was somewhat behind the times as far as Internet access was concerned, but added that the Mir crew does have radio communications, and keeps in touch with amateur radio buffs throughout the world.

"Our frequency is 145 and 985 megahertz,'' he told a questioner. "Looking forward to meeting you at this frequency.''
