Kiev May Cut Off Navy

KIEV -- Ukrainian officials threatened Thursday to freeze bank accounts of the Black Sea Fleet's Russian portion unless it pays its debts to the Crimean city of Sevastopol, Interfax reported.

The Russian portion of the former Soviet fleet, based in Sevastopol, owes about 5.5 million hryvna ($2.75 million) to the city's communal services, Sevastopol municipal administration chief Borys Kucher said, according to Interfax.

The powerful fleet long has been a sore point in relations between the two former Soviet republics.
