Transhipment Forecast

HELSINKI, Finland -- Transhipment of goods through Finland, mainly to Russia, is forecast to grow to about 8 million metric tons a year by 2010 from 4.9 million tons at present, the Finnish Transport Ministry said Wednesday.

Goods transported would become more valuable and require more handling.

"In the future, increasing amounts of valuable goods, requiring careful handling, and chemicals will be shipped through Finland," the ministry said in a statement.
