SCA Plans for Russia

STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- Swedish paper group SCA said Tuesday it was expanding in Russia by purchasing Tetra-Laval's tissue operations.

SCA, or Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget, said it was buying Svetogorsk Tissue for about 200 million crowns ($26 million) on a debt free basis. The tissue plant is located in the St. Petersburg region, SCA said in a statement.

Svetogorsk Tissue has annual production of about 20,000 metric tons, which is equivalent to about 20 percent of the Russian market's needs.

SCA said the plant has annual capacity of about 30,000 metric tons that, with a limited investment, could be raised to 40,000 metric tons.
