Russia-Japan Projects

TOKYO -- Japan has proposed 12 development projects to Russia as part of a deal to jointly develop the Far East region, a major Japanese newspaper reported Wednesday.

The projects include a large-scale hydroelectricity plant to cover the entire Amur region, renovation of bridges over the Amur River and installation of gas pipelines in Kamchatka, the Yomiuri Shimbun said.

Each project, jointly proposed by the Japanese government and private businesses in mid-June, was valued at several hundred million dollars, Yomiuri said.
