Border Treaties Sought

NIDA, Lithuania -- Germany and the Baltic states on Wednesday said they hoped Russia would sign a border treaty with Estonia and Latvia as a step toward improving regional cooperation.

German Foreign Minister Klaus Kinkel was in the Lithuanian coastal town of Nida to meet his counterparts from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia in an annual encounter.

"The ministers, noting the significance of the signing of the Lithuanian-Russian treaty on border delimitation, expressed their hope that Russia will also be prepared to sign border treaties with Latvia and Estonia," the four ministers said in a statement.
