Ukraine Wants Payback

KIEV -- The Ukrainian company that was to have provided turbines for a nuclear power plant in Iran said Wednesday that it wants compensation for the canceled deal.

Ukraine scrapped the $45 million deal in March under American pressure. Washington promised Ukraine enhanced economic ties and cooperation in the nuclear power industry in exchange.

The Turboatom plant in Ukraine's industrial Kharkiv region was to have provided the turbines for the nuclear plant that Russia is completing in southern Iran.

Russia says it now will provide the turbines itself.
