Hostage Negotiations

MOSCOW -- North Ossetian President Alexander Dzasokhov called Tuesday for urgent talks with his Ingush counterpart in a bid to resolve a tit-for-tat hostage incident between the two Russian republics.

His call for talks came as five Ingush were still being held by angry North Ossetian villagers who were demanding the release of members of a wedding party thought to have been taken to Ingushetia.

Representatives from the two republics were again Tuesday trying to defuse the incident.
