French Launch Deal

PARIS -- France and Russia are studying the possibility of launching Russian space rockets from the European Space Agency center in French Guiana, aides to Premier Lionel Jospin said. The issue was discussed during a visit to Paris by new Russian Prime Minister Sergei Kiriyenko, on his first trip abroad since taking office in March, they said Thursday.

The base at Kourou, on the northeast coast of South America, is the launch pad for the ESA's Ariane rockets.
