Duma Gazprom Plea

MOSCOW -- Prime Minister Sergei Kiriyenko on Thursday promised to look into the seizures of the assets of Gazprom's two subsidiaries by the tax authorities Tuesday.

Kiriyenko made the promise while talking to the Russian Regions group in the State Duma, the lower house of parliament, group member Yekaterina Lakhova said.

Lakhova said Russian Regions members had complained to the prime minister that an order by the new taxation chief, Boris Fyodorov, to seize the bank accounts and property of Orenburggazprom and Uraltransgaz was aggravating the political, economic and social situation in the country.
