The Right Scratch

He's the only world-class DJ to have come out of Russia's techno-lution. He's right up there with DJ Shadow, Spooky and the rest, spinning an eclectic brew of funk, house and snippets from horror-movie soundtracks -- creaking doors, falling guillotines, etc. This Saturday, the London-based Vadim stomach-twirls Master, which is fast emerging as the city's premier venue for high-profile DJ acts from abroad.

The New Republic

They've got a great name -- Res Publica. They've got a great location -- just behind Red Square. And they've got an interior that's spacious and yet intimate. If this heart-palpitatingly hot weather continues, Res Publica, with its outdoor beer-umbrella-thingie on Nikolskaya Ulitsa, which has become the new Stoleshnikov Pereulok, might be a stomper. If not, the bare-bones interior might discourage trendspotters.
