Parliament Gets Paper

MOSCOW -- A new paper hit Russia's overladen newsstands Thursday that aims to build interest in one of the country's less respected institutions -- parliament.

"It is a special day in the history of domestic journalism," upper chamber chairman Yegor Stroyev said in a front-page address launching Parlamentskaya Gazeta, or Parliamentary Newspaper.

"The people's deputies now have a solid platform for an active dialogue with the electorate," Gennady Seleznyov, the speaker of the State Duma, wrote.
