Grozny Target Speaks

GROZNY -- Chechen Deputy Prosecutor General Mogomed Magomadov said Thursday that an attack on his car in downtown Grozny that claimed three lives Wednesday was carried out in response to work by his task force, which is investigating the kidnapping of the Russian presidential envoy to Chechnya.

Russian official Valentin Vlasov was abducted May 1 in the vicinity of the Chechen-Ingush border.

Magomadov was not injured in the attack.

"Well-organized forces which will stop at nothing to reach their objective were involved in the crime," Magomadov said."Investigators working on the Vlasov case have struck the only right track, which the kidnapping's organizers and executors obviously felt."
