Grozny Seeks Envoy

nGROZNY (AP) -- Chechen Deputy Prime Minister Kazbek Makhashev said Wednesday that the release of President Boris Yeltsin's envoy was a "matter of honor" for Chechnya and he urged close cooperation between Chechen and Russian investigators, Itar-Tass reported.

Valentin Vlasov was abducted at gunpoint Friday while he was traveling from Grozny, the Chechen capital, to the neighboring republic of Ingushetia. No one has taken responsibility for the kidnapping or set terms for Vlasov's release.

Both Chechen and Russian federal security services have launched investigations into Vlasov's kidnapping, and officials Tuesday traded accusations over who was responsible for the crime.
