Floods Hit Urals

MOSCOW (AP) -- Spring floods hit the Yekaterinburg region in the Ural Mountains, killing at least six people, officials said Tuesday.

Some of the victims had failed to evacuate their homes, which they did not want to leave unattended, Itar-Tass reported, citing local emergency officials.

Floods have swamped about 2,000 houses in the region, and water levels are expected to continue rising as ice and snow melts.
