Berezovsky's CIS Tour

KIEV -- Billionaire business tycoon Boris Berezovsky began his tour of head of the new Commonwealth of Independent States on Thursday, paying lightning visits to Moldova and Ukraine.

At a meeting in Chisinau, Moldova, with Moldovan President Petru Lucinschi, the two agreed that the CIS needs to make a clean break with the Soviet past.

"The perception of the CIS as a continuation of the Soviet Union does not work," Lucinschi said.

"To reorganize the CIS, all its participants should overcome the imperial mentality acquired during the years of the Russian empire and the Soviet Union," Berezovsky told reporters after his meeting with Lucinschi.

The Moldovan capital was the first stop on Berezovsky's tour of several CIS countries.
