Ventspils Slams Russia Oil Firm

RIGA, Latvia -- The Latvian oil terminal company Ventspils Nafta said Friday that its Russian partner Transnefteprodukt had halted supplies of diesel throughLatv ia from April 2 in a contracts and business partnership dispute.

Ventspils said Transnefteprodukt, a partner with Ventspils in the pipeline firm LatRosTrans, halted diesel supplies after it claimed a lack of contracts between the two companies.

But Ventspils said the Russian firm was using the diesel cut as a lever to boost its role in the transport and transit sector in Latvia.

"Transnefteprodukt management wishes to impose its own company Agenttransnefteprodukt ... as the only possible middleman in transporting, reloading and stevedoring diesel in Latvia," Ventspils added.

Ventspils may ask Russia's State Property Ministry, to replace Transnefteprodukt as the Russian partner in LatRosTrans.
