Russians Lead on Ice

MINNEAPOLIS -- Russians Anzhelika Krylova and Oleg Ovsyannikov claimed the early lead in the ice-dancing competition at the World Figure Skating Championships.

Despite an obvious misstep by Krylova on Tuesday's second compulsory dance, five of seven judges ranked the Russians first in the field of 30, doing little to dispel questions about ice-dance judging.

The judging in this event is under a microscope at the worlds following a controversy at the Nagano Games that led to calls for ice dancing to be eliminated from the Olympics. Tuesday's early results will do little to calm the critics.
