Vavilov Joins Gazprom

MOSCOW -- Andrei Vavilov, former Russian first deputy finance minister, has become an adviser to Rem Vyakhirev, chairman of the Gazprom gas monopoly.

His transfer to one of the world's largest companies will make it possible for him to put his experience in the financial sphere to good use, he said.

He left the Finance Ministry in 1997 to become president of the International Financial Corp.

Most recently he headed the Institute of Financial Research. Vavilov is running for the State Duma in the Gorno-Altai precinct, in the republic of Altai.
