Talks on Cuban Reactor

MOSCOW -- Russia and Cuba are planning a new round of talks next month on the possibility of completing a partially built nuclear reactor on the island nation, Itar-Tass said Monday.

"We hope the talks will lead to a positive decision this time," said Alexander Nechayev, deputy head of the Russian agency that builds nuclear power stations abroad.

Construction of two Soviet-designed light-water reactors began in the early 1980s. But financial problems in both Cuba and the Soviet Union forced a halt, and no additional work has been done in recent years, despite periodic discussions.
