St. Pete to Hold Titanic Memorial

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida -- A Florida church said it planned to hold a memorial service for the 1,500 people who died on the Titanic, citing renewed sadness about the deaths since the release of the blockbuster movie.

"We had heard so many people say that they felt bereft and they wanted some way to honor that feeling ... that there just needed to be some closure that way," said Lois Cairl, a member of the St. Petersburg Unitarian Universalist Church and head of the committee planning the service.

The service will be at the downtown St. Petersburg church on April 15, the 86th anniversary of when the Titanic sank in the very early morning hours after hitting an iceberg. Participants are being asked to wear period dress.
