Moldovan Elections

CHISINAU, Moldova -- Moldova's Communist Party finished on top in the former Soviet republic's parliamentary election, scoring just over 30 percent of the vote, election officials said Monday.

With all votes counted in Sunday's poll, Mihai Bushuleac, a member of the Central Election Commission, said the communists had collected 30.07 percent of the vote.

The nationalist Democratic Convention had 19.36 percent and the centrist Movement for a Democratic and Prosperous Moldova had 18.14 percent.

Turnout was 68 percent, well over the 50 percent required to validate the poll.
