Mafia Suspect Still Held

GENEVA -- A Russian held in Switzerland 17 months ago accused of having links to a Moscow-organized crime group and of money-laundering is likely to go on trial in May, the prosecutor handling the case said Wednesday.

Prosecutor Jean-Louis Crochet said a Geneva court had ruled Tuesday that Sergei Mikhailov, held in jail here since October 1996, should be detained for another three months.

Police said that, before his arrest, Mikhailov had lived with his wife and two children in a villa near Geneva and held three passports -- Russian, Israeli and Costa Rican.
