Lukashenko Slammed

MINSK, Belarus -- Opposition activists rallied in the Belarussian capital to mark the fourth anniversary of a post-Soviet constitution and protest that it had been trampled by Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko.

After the Sunday rally, police detained the leader of the opposition Social Democrats, Nikolai Statkevich, accusing him of changing the route of a pre-rally march and obstructing public transit.

In a speech to an estimated 3,000 people at the rally, one opposition leader, Anatoly Lebedko, characterized "Lukashism" as "a symbiosis of fascism, communism, chauvinism and double-dyed Latin-American populism."
