Lithuania Adopts A New Time Zone

VILNIUS, Lithuania -- The Baltic state of Lithuania on Monday managed a smooth leap from one international time zone to another although some airlines grumbled about scheduling problems.

The European Affairs Ministry said it had not received any complaints.

The change came into effect Sunday, when most of Western Europe was in the process of advancing an hour to summer time, but Monday was the first working day under the new system.

Lithuania now will be at Greenwich Mean Time plus two hours in the summer instead of GMT plus three like its northern neighbors, Latvia and Estonia.
