U.S. Investment Grows

MOSCOW -- U.S. investment in Russia amounted to $4 billion last year, way up from a figure of just $1.3 billion in 1993, Eugene Lawson, president of the American-Russian Business Council, said Tuesday.

Total U.S. investment in Russia amounts to $10 billion, Lawson said at an international seminar on investment legislation. U.S. business is eager to invest in Russia, he said.

Lawson said Russia was coming to the end of a seven-year period of crisis. Industrial decline has ended and the nation is standing on the threshold of an expansion in commercial activity.

Russia over the last five years has beaten inflation down from 960 percent to just 11 percent to 12 percent annually.
