UN Hostage Filmed

MOSCOW -- Russian authorities Monday released a video film showing a United Nations aid worker kidnapped in a restive region of southern Russia appealing for help.

Vincent Cochetel, 37, a French national who heads the UN High Commissioner for Refugees' regional office in North Ossetia, was seized by three masked gunmen in his apartment in the regional capital, Vladikavkaz, on Jan. 29.

NTV television said he was apparently transferred to neighboring breakaway republic of Chechnya, where he is believed to be held in the town of Shali.

It showed video footage supposedly filmed by the kidnappers and released to journalists by North Ossetian authorities in Vladikavkaz.
