Premier's Market View

MOSCOW -- The situation on Russia's financial markets is "manageable and under control," Russian Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin said Tuesday during his meeting in Barvikha, outside Moscow, with First Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Chubais, Bank of Russia Chairman Sergei Dubinin and Finance Minister Mikhail Zadornov.

However, he admitted that the market situation "remains difficult," Igor Shabdurasulov, head of the culture and information department in the government headquarters told Interfax.

The four men discussed the State Duma's upcoming budget debate and the collection of budget revenues in January and the payment of wages to public-sector employees and various social benefits, he said.
