Belarus Nuclear Denial

MOSCOW -- A top Belarussian scientist denied Tuesday that his country has weapons-grade nuclear material, as reported on national television.

"According to the complete inventory of nuclear materials, there is neither weapons-grade plutonium nor weapons-grade uranium in Belarus," said Alexander Mikhalevich, director of the Institute of Energy Problems at Belarus' Academy of Sciences.

On Sunday, the "Rezonans" program broadcast on state-run television said Belarus has 2 tons of weapons-grade plutonium and highly enriched uranium.
