Attack Video Released

MOSCOW -- Television stations in Georgia and Russia on Monday broadcast what they said was video footage of the assassination attempt on Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze last week, taken by the attackers.

Georgia's state prosecutor, Djamlet Babilashvili, said a videocassette recording the attack on Shevardnadze, from which he escaped unscathed, was retrieved from an apartment used by his assailants in preparation for the attack.

Babilashvili said the identity of the attackers was known "though in the interests of the enquiry, it is too early to make their names public."

Five Georgians have been arrested, but several persons of other nationalities are implicated, Babiliashvili said.
