Airbus Buys Titanium

MOSCOW -- European airplane maker Airbus Industrie said Tuesday the company would buy 800 tons of Russian titanium this year.

Igor Bocharov, director of the company's Moscow office, said at a news conference that Airbus Industrie had purchased 800 tons of semi-finished products in 1997 in Russia.

Airbus Industrie buys titanium from the Verhne-Saldinsky plant in the Urals. The plant also supplies titanium for Boeing Co. as well as for airplane makers in the former Soviet Union.
