Topol-M Launch Fine

MOSCOW -- After a failed launch in October, Russia successfully test-fired a new missile that is expected to serve as the heart of its long-range missile forces in coming decades.

The launch of the Topol-M, from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in northwest Russia, completed "a key stage in developing the missile complex of the 21st century," Interfax reported, citing the Strategic Missile Forces.

General Vladimir Yakovlev, the head of the missile forces, said the first Topol-M missiles will be installed later this year, now that all test launches are complete. The last test launch failed when the missile burst into flames shortly after liftoff.
