Ministers Discuss Kurd

MOSCOW -- Italian Foreign Minister Lamberto Dini held talks Monday with senior Russian officials about a Kurdish rebel leader who is seeking asylum in Italy and could be returned to Moscow.

Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan was arrested in Rome earlier this month after traveling there from Moscow. Itar-Tass quoted unidentified Italian diplomats as saying Ocalan could be sent to Russia if his request for asylum is rejected by the Italian government.

The Ocalan issue was expected to dominate Dini's talks in Moscow with Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov and Prime Minister Yevgeny Primakov. But officials refused to release any details after Monday's meetings.

"The discussion of the [Ocalan] question was not the purpose of my visit, but we've had a chance to exchange information," Dini told reporters after meeting with Ivanov. He refused to elaborate.
