German Jobless Rise

NUREMBERG, Germany -- Germany's unemployment lines started to lengthen again in November for the first time in nearly a year, providing further evidence that economic recovery may be faltering.

Confounding analysts' expectations of a further fall, the Labor Office said 4,000 Germans joined unemployment lines last month, raising the total to a seasonally adjusted 4.11 million and ending 10 months of successive decreases.

The unemployment rate, based on unadjusted data, rose to 10.2 percent, up from 10.1 percent in October.
