Furby Is Top Toy

LONDON -- Forget Tamagotchi, forget Teletubby. This year's must-have toy is a furry, gremlin-like creature that breaks wind, otherwise known as Furby.

"Furbies are far and away the No. 1 toy for everyone," said Rebecca Caruso of international toy retailer Toys R Us.

"We have 150 to 200 people lining up outside every morning to get one," said David Fogel, retail director at Hamleys toy store in London. "I'm having to fly them in from Hong Kong daily."

Costing $29.99 and produced by Tiger Electronics, a division of U.S. toy giant Hasbro, the belching, bug-eyed ball of plastic babbles in its own language, called Furbish, and speaks about 200 words of English.
