Finns Give Aid

HELSINKI, Finland -- The Finnish Red Cross on Monday dispatched winter clothes for some 10,000 people in Russia's Murmansk region, the organization said.

The 13-metric-ton shipment of clothes is for pensioners, the unemployed, single-parent families and families caring for their sick at home.

The Finnish Red Cross is also providing medicine, food and other aid to hospitals, nurseries, schools and pensioners homes in the Murmansk area and in Karelia near the Finnish border.

Later this month, the organization will send 6 tons of clothes to Karelia.

This year, Finland has pledged 8 million markka ($1.6 million) in aid to help the needy across its eastern border.
