Ambassador Returns

MOSCOW -- Russian Ambassador to Britain Yury Fokin, recalled last week over U.S.-British airstrikes on Iraq, has returned to London, ending the worst setback in relations between Russia and the West in years.

Itar-Tass said Fokin was back in London on Saturday after "emergency consultations with the highest authorities in Russia over Iraq." A Foreign Ministry spokesman could not confirm the report.

Fokin was recalled along with Yuly Vorontsov, Moscow's envoy to Washington, who returned to his workplace last week. Moscow's decision to recall the ambassadors was a step not taken since the Cold War.
