2 Satellites Launched

MOSCOW -- A Kosmos-3M rocket placed a Swedish scientific satellite and a Russian global-positioning satellite in orbit Thursday, Interfax reported.

The Swedish satellite, weighing just 35 kilograms, is for measuring electrical and magnetic fields in the atmosphere and recording electron densities.

The Russian satellite, dubbed Nadyezhda, or hope, is to complete the international KOSPAS/SARSAT network aimed at locating boats and aircraft in danger.
