Russia Condemns Blast

MOSCOW -- Russia has condemned Friday's car bomb attack in a crowded Jerusalem market and said it was aimed at wrecking the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians.

"We express our deep regret over the tragic incident and decisively condemn the terrorist act," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement Saturday.

"The extremists' attempt is aimed at wrecking the peace process, which is only now starting to develop normally after the Oct. 23 agreements.

"The Russian co-sponsor of the Mideast peace process is convinced that only the most rapid implementation of the agreements, including security measures, will be the most effective way to counter terrorism," it said.

Two attackers in the car died and 21 people were injured in the explosion. The militant Islamic Jihad group claimed responsibility.
