Primakov Scraps Duties

MOSCOW -- Russian Prime Minister Yevgeny Primakov has signed a resolution abolishing all taxes and duties on Ukrainian white sugar imports this year, the Kremlin said.

The resolution, published Monday, ends a 3 percent import duty and an additional 20 percent duty on white sugar imports from Ukraine that were imposed by the previous government.

The short-lived Sergei Kiriyenko government took a range of emergency measures including imposing an extra 3 percent tariff on top of existing import duties on all imported goods for the second half of 1998.
