Potemkin to Resign

MOSCOW -- The head of the Moscow Interbank Currency Exchange, Alexander Potemkin, said Wednesday that he had decided to quit his post as deputy chairman at the Central Bank, Interfax reported.

The resignation comes after the Federal Securities Commission ordered MICEX to suspend equity trade last month since it had violated a law banning state employees from working on exchanges. Trade closed for several days.

Potemkin said he decided to give up the job after being formally elected MICEX board chairman, Interfax said.
