Tons of Fish Seized

MOSCOW -- Russian border guards have seized 18 tons of fish caught illegally in the Caspian and Azov seas this year, Itar-Tass reported.

Guards patrolling the Russian waters of the two seas, divided by the Caucasus Mountains, have also confiscated 43 kilometers of fishing nets and 86 fishing boats, the news agency quoted the border guard press service as saying Saturday.

Poaching is widespread in the Caspian, which is home to most of the world's sturgeon, prompting Russia to say it would restrict caviar exports.
