Tax Collection Dives

MOSCOW -- Russian tax collection plunged in September for the second straight month due to the country's acute financial and economic crisis, State Tax Service chief Georgy Boos said Tuesday, Interfax reported.

The tax service collected 9.3 billion rubles ($580 million) last month, almost 2 billion rubles less than the figure for August, said Boos, 35, a former deputy head of parliament's budget committee.

The August figures had themselves been disastrous, falling by half to 12 billion rubles.
