MOSCOW -- A fire at a coal mine in the Far East was extinguished Wednesday after burning for two days, Itar-Tass reported.
The fire was started by spontaneous coal combustion at the Amurskaya mine in the town of Artem, Itar-Tass said. Mining operations were stopped immediately.
Firefighters cut oxygen to the fire by plugging three plaster stoppers into the area where the coal was burning 320 meters below ground, it said.
There were no injuries, said Alexander Sidorenko, deputy chief of the Primorye region civil defense department.
