Husbands Under Water


"Drowning by Numbers," Peter Greenaway's 1987 film, is showing Wednesday as part on an ongoing retrospective of the acclaimed English director's work at the Cinema Museum. With stunning cinematography by Sacha Vierny, the film tells the story of three generations of women who solve their marital problems by drowning their husbands. It shows at 6:30 p.m. in Hall 4 of the museum at 15 Druzhinnikovskaya Ulitsa. Tickets cost 10 rubles ($1.75). Tel 255-9095. Metro: Krasnopresnenskaya.


Tchaikovsky Swings


Jazz lovers won't want to miss a Wednesday concert at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall headlined by the Grigory Fain Jazz Trio. The 7 p.m. show also features Minsk's Renaissance Jazz Ensemble and vocalist Yulia Velichko, who will perform the songs of Irving Berlin. The hall is at 4/31 Triumfalnaya Ploshchad. Big City Thinking


Check out an exhibition of photographs by Jitka Hanzlova, a German artist whose color works on the theme of "human thought in an urban environment" are now showing at the Goethe Institute. The exhibit, which runs through Jan. 31 at 95a Leninsky Prospekt, is open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Admission is free. Tel. 936-2457.
