Spartak Set To Play Kiev

Russian champion Spartak Moscow and Ukrainian title-holder Dynamo Kiev are set for a rematch of last year's final of the Commonwealth Cup soccer tournament after both favorites won their semifinal matchup Friday.

Spartak edged out Skonto Riga, 2-1, while Dynamo overwhelmed a surprised Kopet-Dag Ashkhabad, 5-0, in the second game at the CSKA indoor arena.

Yegor Titov gave the Muscovites an all-important semifinal victory when he volleyed home a left-side cross from Brazilian striker Robson da Silva with just seven minutes remaining.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainians left little hope for their Turkmen opponent as Alexei Gerasimenko, Andriy Shevchenko and Valentin Belkevich scored three unanswered goals in the first half, making no doubt of the outcome.

Spartak will now take on Dynamo in Sunday's finale in an effort to avenge its 3-2 loss in last year's title game.
