Muscovite Killed In Tram Shootout

A Moscow tram got caught in a crossfire of shooting outside a restaurant Monday evening, and as many as four passengers were hospitalized with gunshot wounds, Russian news reports said.

One of the suspected gunmen was killed in the shootout, Interfax and NTV television said, citing police.

Police said they were looking for three gunmen who fled the scene.

NTV reported that the victim's name was Vyacheslan Stepanov, although no other information was available about him.

Interfax quoted police sources as saying they believed the men were involved in rival gangs.

The shooting erupted at about 7:20 p.m. outside a restaurant at the intersection of Ulitsa Klary Tsetkin and Novopetrovskaya Ulitsa in northern Moscow, Interfax said.

On Sunday, another tram passing the same spot was fired on by people outside the restaurant but no one was injured and the gunmen were arrested, NTV said.
