Krasair Announces Purchase of 3 Planes

Russia's Krasair airline plans to buy three new passenger Tupolev Tu-204-120 planes powered by Rolls Royce engines and hopes to take delivery of the first one in February, a senior company official said Monday.

Viktor Rybyakov, Krasair deputy chief executive, said the airline planned to buy the three Tu-204-120 jets from Sirocco, a London-based leasing company.

The aircraft are produced by the Aviastar aviation plant in Ulyanovsk.

"We are close to a deal and plan to get the 168-seat plane during next month," Rybyakov said. He did not say when the other two planes would be bought.

He added that the jet's cost was $38 million. Krasair will pay for the plane using a loan from a Western bank, he said. He did not specify the loan's volume or the bank.

Rybyakov also said that the jet would be used on flights from the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk to Moscow and on the company's international charter flights.
