MIAMI - Miami Heat All-Star center Alonzo Mourning underwent surgery to repair a partial tear of the patellar tendon in his left knee and is expected to be sidelined eight to 12 weeks.

The injury was discovered during a routine preseason physical examination last week, and an MRI on Thursday afternoon revealed the tear. The surgery was performed by Miami team physician Harlan Selesnick at Health South Doctor's Hospital in Coral Gables, Florida.

The Heat acquired center Duane Causwell from the Sacramento Kings in August to provide depth in the middle. Causwell will likely split time at center with Isaac Austin in Mourning's absence.
