Japan Crime Sweep

TOKYO () -- Eight people were arrested as Japanese police widened their crackdown on "yakuza" organized crime gangs with a massive raid in Tokyo on Wednesday.

About 700 Tokyo Metropolitan Police officers raided over 100 facilities suspected of being used by crime syndicates, a police spokesman said.

The Tokyo sweep follows raids in Osaka and Kobe on Monday of 80 gangster offices. The raids are in connection with a series of shootings connected to a mob power struggle that has left one top crime boss and one civilian dead, and injured two others.
